framed portraits decorate pale aqua nursery

Have you ever walked into a room with a gallery wall and said “Ooooh!”?   The reason you get that feeling is because the artwork is coordinated. A great room has been styled throughout every inch. So when you are planning artwork for your own nursery, take some time to think about these elements in your baby’s room.

Decide WHERE you want the art and assess the space.

• Is the wood in the space dark, light, or mid-tone?
• Are there any accent colors on the walls?
• Is the furniture and other decor neutral or are there pops of color?
• What other textures are in the room?

Points to remember about color and spacing

• The color in the space should work well with the images you are hanging there.  (We will plan for this when you schedule your newborn session.)
• When hanging multiple prints, place images that have similar color tones together. A random mix of color in one gallery will make it feel haphazard and not “designed.”
• If you are hanging multiple prints, make sure you have one print be the “focal” point. Your eye naturally falls to that piece and then travels around the gallery looking at all the other portraits grouped with it.
• Symmetry works great too. A grouping of nine square portraits, perfectly spaced and symmetrical can create a great focal point all on its own!

And if the thought of figuring out how to hang a gallery like that feels intimidating, just remember that I offer complimentary installation of your artwork so that you don’t have to stress about it!
