Props can add so much to your senior pictures! Not only do they add meaning to your session and help display your personality, they often give you something to do during your session. That’s important because you might not be super comfortable in front of the camera. Totally normal!! (Unless, of course, you are modeling as an after-school job.) And so, bringing along a few important items helps us showcase who you are and also helps you feel more at ease during your portrait session.
For example, I recently had a photo session with Jonathan, the pitcher for Norton High School’s baseball team. Now, Jonathan really was very relaxed for his session, but he lit up when I asked him about the scripture references on his ball glove. He told me that his coach is a big proponent of positive thinking and that he had encouraged his team to write inspiring quotes under the bill of their ball caps. Whenever the game wasn’t going their way or one of them made an error, his teammates were supposed to look at those sayings to strengthen their resolve to do their best. Jonathan had lots of verses that encouraged him. Too many to fit in just the space under his cap, so he started writing the references to his favorite verses all over his glove, too. We felt that it was an important enough element to his story to include a photograph of the glove in his final album.
